Andrew is traditionally believed to have met his martyrdom by crucifixion in the city of Patras (Patræ) in Achaea around AD 60. Simon, surnamed Peter, stands as a pivotal figure in early Christianity, known for his unwavering faith and leadership. Historical accounts suggest that he met a martyr's end, being crucified upside down, a testament to his profound devotion and humility in the face of persecution. Dying approximately 33 to 34 years after the death of Christ, Peter's legacy continues to resonate within the Christian community. According to Smith’s Bible Dictionary, there is compelling evidence that he, alongside the Apostle Paul, played a foundational role in establishing the church in Rome, ultimately leading to their martyrdom in that city. This enduring influence underscores Peter's significance as a leader among the Twelve Apostles and as a cornerstone of the early church.

Phillip (crucified)—Preached in Greece, Syria, and Turkey (in the cities of Galatia, Phrygia, and Hierapolis). Philip partnered with Bartholomew in his missions. According to sources “Through his miraculous healing and preaching, Philip converted the wife of the Preconsul of the city” of Hierapolis. This event angered the Preconsul and ordered that both Philip and Bartholomew be tortured and crucified upside down. While on the cross, Philip continued to preach and he was able to convince the crowd and the Preconsul to release Bartholomew, while insisting that he (Philip) remained crucified. Bartholomew was released but Philip died on the cross and was later buried somewhere within the city.

Bartholomew remains a fascinating figure in Christian tradition. His missionary work took him across vast regions, including Mesopotamia, Persia, Turkey, Armenia, and India. His evangelism was met with both acceptance and hostility, culminating in his brutal martyrdom.
Missionary Work and Influence
Bartholomew is believed to have spread the Gospel in various parts of the ancient world, including India, where he reportedly left behind a Hebrew copy of the Gospel of Matthew. His efforts in Armenia were particularly significant, as he played a role in converting many to Christianity. However, his success in spreading the faith ultimately led to his persecution.
Martyrdom and Legacy
Tradition holds that Bartholomew was skinned alive and beheaded in Derbent, Azerbaijan, by order of a local king after a majority of the population converted to Christianity. His gruesome execution is often depicted in Christian art, where he is shown holding his flayed skin.
